Q: "Is this mattress safer for my baby than foam and metal sprung mattresses?"
A: lets take the hardest question first! All Cot mattresses that are sold in the U. K. have to conform to strict British standards to ensure they are safe and non-toxic. Foam, ground breaking synthetic fabrics and metal springs are used extensively throughout millions of everyday products. These components may be able to offer better or the same durability, heat transference, breathability etc, but their benefits are created by technical innovations, the NaturalMat cot mattress has these benefits naturally

A: Yes certainly as durable as any mattress made with foam, Recent feedback have confirmed that it can offer same durability as a metal sprung Mattress. One customer is a year down the road of using it for her second child (having used it for over 2 years for the first) and she says it is as good as the day she bought it.
Q: "What happens to the urine or vomit that might have gone inside the mattress if I never use the breathable water proof sheet?"
A: Should urine get past what the baby is wearing through the two unbleached calico covers and into the mattress then just wash the covers at 60°c and let it air naturally, replace the covers and your mattress is as good as new. As there are no chemicals for the urine to react to then there is no danger of any form of gas (toxic or otherwise) that will be generated with natural organic components
Q: "Do I dispose of the NaturalMat cot mattress differently to a conventional Mattress"
A: Oh yes, this must be another reason for buying a natural mattress, it's the benefit to the earths resources. every component is recyclable and every component is naturally grown, from the coir to the latex and through to the lambs wool from local Devon sheep.
Q: All the advice I have read about baby mattresses says "NEW Baby New mattress" does that apply to organic mattresses too?
A: OK lets be honest here, This rule came about aroung 1990 because it was found parents were using used mattresses that had been stored away for a year in a loft or damp place where bacteria from urine and vomit could react with the foam and cause a toxic gas. Mould could also grow in the foam under the cover, etc. Taking a new baby that is more vulnerable than its older sibling and putting it in a used mattress where you could introduce the bacteria from one child to another is not recommended.
Our organic mattress has a water proof cover and two other covers that can be machine washed at 60° (a temperature that kills bacteria). If you need to store it after use, ensure it is wrapped airtight and then when needed again well aired and the covers washed again. This will prevent the passing on of 99% of bacteria and there also cannot be any toxic gas problem as it is natural product. Having Said all this SIDS advice is currently edged in stone ............."New Baby - New Mattress".
